Those are the things that get in the way of a proper raised boarding installation, and they are the things most homeowners cannot shift themselves. Personal belongings are a separate matter. We ask that the loft is emptied of your own items before we arrive for a boarding installation. If that is not practical, we can quote to bring them down for you, provided there is a room or space in the house where everything can be placed. Sorting through it all is then for you to do at your own pace once we have finished, not while we are working. Waste and scrap boarding works the same way: you are welcome to remove and dispose of it yourself, or we can price removal and disposal as part of the job. Getting old boarding, a redundant tank or a pile of offcuts out of a loft needs someone comfortable working off joists, someone at the bottom of the ladder, and a way to get bulky waste to a tip. Most households cannot line those up on the same Saturday, so it stays where it is. That matters because it holds up the work that would actually improve the space. Old boarding screwed flat to the joists has to come up before a raised deck can go down, and a redundant tank sitting in the middle of the loft takes up the exact area you want to store in. It is also the awkward, heavy end of the job.
