Its purpose is to separate a compatible light fitting from the surrounding insulation, allowing a more continuous insulation layer rather than leaving an open patch around each downlight. The manufacturer's supplied data sheet describes a fire-retardant cover tested for domestic loft use by the UK Lighting Industry Association. It states a maximum downlight power of 50W and requires the fitting to be smaller than the cover's internal dimensions. Those restrictions must be checked against the actual light fitting. A downlight protector is particularly relevant when insulation is being topped up or a raised boarding layout is being planned. We look at the existing recessed lights and arrange qualified electrical input where needed, rather than assuming that every fitting can safely be covered in the same way. - Separates compatible downlights from surrounding insulation - Helps maintain a continuous insulation layer - Manufactured in the UK from fire-retardant material - Designed specifically for downlight protection in domestic loftsEnquire About Loft Lid 07414 143782 ## Product Specifications Product codeLL004 Internal dimensions209 × 150 × 150mm (height) External dimensions222 × 162 × 152mm (height) Maximum downlight power50W Excluded bulb typeDichroic bulbs Manufacturer-listed testingBS EN 60695-2-11; BS EN 60695-11-5; BS EN 60598-1, clause 12.4; IP6X Product Data Sheet (PDF)View on LoftLeg ## Suitability & Installation Not suitable for use with dichroic bulbs. The downlight must be no more than 50W and its dimensions must be smaller than the stated internal dimensions. Compatibility also needs checking against the downlight manufacturer's requirements and the existing electrical installation. A cover is not a substitute for a suitable, safely installed fitting. The product's fire-retardant material and listed tests should not be confused with a promise of a fire-rated ceiling. Any electrical changes are carried out by a qualified electrician.
