At 300mm high, it is designed for lofts where a deeper layer of insulation needs more clearance beneath the storage deck. The manufacturer's supplied data sheet describes it as designed to raise boards above 400mm of quilt insulation. The purpose is the same as the original Loft Leg: keep the insulation uncompressed while creating a separate storage platform or walkway. Choosing the taller support is not simply a matter of maximising the gap. The available roof height, the hatch position and the timber arrangement all affect whether an XL deck is practical in your loft. The XL support has a 90mm square top platform and is manufactured from recycled polypropylene. Packs contain 12 legs, with a manufacturer-stated maximum distance between supports of 600mm. We assess access and usable space before recommending XL supports. The manufacturer's storage guidance is up to 25kg per square metre, subject to the loft structure being suitable. A leg's compression-test result must not be treated as the load capacity of the finished loft floor. XL supports are for loft storage boarding, not a structural conversion into a living space. Airflow, insulation depth and the condition of the joists or trusses remain part of the installation assessment.
