Instead of placing belongings directly on the insulation, the shelf provides a separate storage surface in a part of the loft that might otherwise remain unused. The manufacturer's kit contains two brackets, a chipboard shelf and four screws. It is designed for trusses at 600mm centres and accommodates a stated gap range of 539mm to 580mm. That fit is important: a shelf kit should be selected for the actual roof structure, not simply because it looks suitable in a photograph. LoftLeg describes the kit as requiring no cutting and as designed to work alongside a Loft Leg boarding platform.
